3 Ways to Make Your Home Safer and Healthier

A home should be a safe haven from the outside world, but may contain some items that aren't good for us! By adding or changing these everyday items we will be able to make our home safer and healthier for our family.

1. Add Plants to your home

Plants are a great addition to any home. They absorb a chemical we don’t need – carbon dioxide – and combine it with water and light to produce energy which is called photosynthesis. Some plants also remove benzene, trichloroethylene and formaldehyde from the air, making it cleaner for us to breathe!

Having indoor plants reduce carbon dioxide by 10%, increase humidity in the air, and are linked to lower stress levels. While it may seem difficult or expensive to have plants in your home, some plants are easy to grow and affordable! One great example is a spider plant. Spider plants are a beautiful plant that is easy to grow. They purify the air and reduce the amount of formaldehyde in the air. They’re a great addition that can make any home a healthier environment!

  1. Filter your Tap Water

Have you ever wondered what exactly is in your tap water?  Some common elements found in tap water are arsenic, aluminum, and fluoride. Arsenic is a powerful carcinogenic that has been linked to several types of cancer. Aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer’s, skin problems, liver disease and learning disabilities. Fluoride does improve oral health, but it also is linked to a weak immune system and cellular damage that increases aging.

While bottled water may seem like a good alternative, often times it is just regular tap water. By investing in a good water filtration system you are providing yourself and your family with a safe place to drink water!

  1. Get Rid of Dust

Dust is made of pollen, dead skin cells and fiber from clothing and paper. It accumulates quickly and can seem never ending. This makes it difficult to overcome allergies and other breathing problems.

There are a lot of great ways to get rid of dust such as changing your bedding once a week, vacuuming regularly, dusting with a moist towel instead of feather dusters and cleaning your carpets and upholstery often.

At Power Chem-Dry, we use only green certified products in our professional cleaning services. This has been proven to reduce dust and allergens from carpet and upholstery by 98%! For moments when your deep cleaning your home for a safer, healthier environment, call us to help
